EU Ecolabel

EU Ecolabel

The European Ecolabel (EU Flower) was created to distinguish products and services which comply with the high requirements in the field of environmental protection and which are of relevance for the Common Market.

This includes, among other things, the limitation of energy consumption and of water consumption, the avoidance of waste, the preferred use of renewable resources, and the promotion of environmental education. The criteria were defined by the European Commission in cooperation with the Member States. In Austria the competent authority is the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management.

Carbon Footprint

The key cause of the climate change is emissions of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels. Another key cause is the deforestation that is occurring in certain parts of the world. Very simply, we need to reduce our emissions of carbon dioxide and we need to bind more of the carbon dioxide already circulating in the atmosphere.

A carbon footprint is the total effect a product or a service have on the emissions of climate gases, of which carbon dioxide is the most important one. To calculate a carbon footprint, you need to make a life cycle analysis of the product with only one parameter measured – carbon dioxide.
